Name of project | Ivory House, Norwich |
Manufacturer | Ventrolla Limited |
Location | Norwich, East Anglia |
Project requirements | French Kier Anglia, Norwich contacted Ventrolla to help in the renovation and conversion of Ivory House in All Saints Green, Norwich. As a Georgian listed building there were a number of restrictions on how the conversion from offices into luxury apartments could proceed. The 48+ sash windows were in various states of repair and most were draughty and could not open, those that could open tended to rattle. Ventrolla were asked to eliminate these issues whilst complying with Listed Building restrictions. |
Solution | Structurally, the windows were repaired using Ventrolla’s VR90 two part epoxy resin and sills beyond economical repair replaced. The windows were then eased, new sash cords fitted and pulleys serviced. In the final part of the renovation process the windows were weighed and rebalanced to ensure smooth operation of the sashes. To overcome the draughts and rattling sashes the Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) was installed in the top sash, bottom sash, mid rail, parting bead and staff bead. Because VPSS is recognised by English Heritage (as the system is unobtrusive) and because the Ventrolla philosophy is to renovate the windows wherever possible and ensure that any replacement sections are matched to existing profiles, VPSS is readily accepted as a solution by Conservation Officers. |
Benefits | The window renovation process provided the following benefits:
