Name of project | Restoration of Grade2 listed House, Oxfordshire |
Manufacturer | Rooksbridge Windows Ltd |
Location | Oxfordshire |
Project requirements | We have just completed the restoration of 11 Box sash Windows for a Client in Oxfordshire. This was started in September 2009.
The project entailed the removal of the complete windows on the rear elevation – although they were in such a poor state of repair that they almost fell apart. |
Solution | The openings were securely boarded while we carried out the restoration on our workshop.
The boxes were disassembled into individual pieces. Each piece was sanded back to the original wood and all defective and rotten wood was removed and replaced with the appropriate jointing method.
All the cills had to be completely replaced and these were machined to match the originals from a suitable Harwood.
The sashes themselves needed new wood scarfing in and even complete Bottom rails and sections of glazing bar were replaced.
The Top and bottom sashes were then fitted into the refurbished boxes, all with restored glazing, draft proofing and even weighted to balance the weight of the glass. |
Benefits | Once installed back in Oxfordshire the sashes were as good as new, whilst still retaining their original character. |
Client feedback | The client said that he was really pleased with the windows and expressed his thanks to all the team. |
