Name of project | The Terrace |
Manufacturer | Mumford and Wood Ltd |
Location | Tooley Street, London Borough of Southwark, SE1 |
Project requirements | Skillful renovation of The Terrace, which is not listed but sits within a conservation area and only minutes from Tower Bridge, required replacement of single glazed original timber windows. Considerable adaptation was required by Mumford & Wood to achieve fine and elegant sight lines which was a key element of the design brief from Hawkins/Brown Architects, London |
Solution | “Working closely with the architect and client we modified our standard sections substantially,” says Dave Snowling, Managing Director. “We replicated the original product working with casements of ascending size together with fixed windows set within stone mullions. Many casements were shaped and required our full bespoke capacity.” |
Benefits | The Terrace, a combination of renovation and new build elements, is now fully completed and has the benefit of high performance energy rated timber windows without any compromise in the design and aesthetics of the original. |
Client feedback | The existing terrace of buildings located along Tooley Street make up one of the last remaining plots awaiting development by morelondon. The scheme mediates in terms of use, scale and form between the new commercial spaces of morelondon’s development and the low-rise terraced buildings in Tooley Street. The Terrace is greatly improved aesthetically and in performance values. |
