Climate change.

It’s an open and shut case for wood windows.

What the ad says

Our wood windows already come top of the class for looks, performance and service life. Now BRE’s new Green Guide confirms what we’ve been saying all along – they’re the best choice to help combat climate change.

For high quality, factory finished and glazed windows with guaranteed performance and service life of at least 35 years, just look for our quality mark.

Climate Change Indicator ratings for domestic wood, PVC-U and powder coated aluminium windows. Wood windows also receive the highest overall ratings (A+ or A) in the Green Guide.

Facts behind this ad

  • No other material looks or feels as good as wood for a window. In many cases replacing windows with alternative materials can reduce the value of your property
  • Wood windows can equal or better the thermal performance of windows made from other materials; wood has superior thermal insulation qualities and the strength to accommodate triple glazing units where necessary
  • BRE’s revised Green Guide Online was published on June 6th 2008
  • One of the ratings in the Green Guide - The Climate Change Indicator - assesses a material’s potential contribution to global warming as a result of the carbon dioxide emissions associated with its production
  • Domestic wood windows score an ‘A’ rating on the Climate Change Indicator, while PVC-U and powder coated aluminium windows each score ‘D’ ratings
  • This is because wood from sustainably managed forests is a carbon neutral material
  • All windows carrying the Wood Window Alliance quality brandmark are made with either PEFC or FSC certified sustainably sourced timber
  • The Green Guide gives an A+ overall life cycle assessment rating and a 35 year service life expectancy to wood windows made to the BWF’s Timber Window Accreditation Scheme standard using water-based paints or stains
  • All windows carrying the Wood Window Alliance quality brandmark comply with, or exceed, the standards demanded of the Timber Window Accreditation Scheme
  • All windows carrying the Wood Window Alliance quality brandmark are factory finished and ready double glazed
  • They all carry service life and paint or stain warranties, typically 35 years on service life, 8 on paint finish and 6 on stain finish
  • All windows carrying the Wood Window Alliance quality brandmark are accredited by an independent UK or European body to prove compliance with the following standards
    • BS 644, the main British Standard for wood windows, or equivalent standards from other countries
    • The performance standards for wind and weather resistance of BS 6375 Part 1
    • The minimum performance standards for operational aspects of BS 6375 Part 2, or equivalent standards from other countries
    • Manufactured from timber, sourced legally from sustainably managed forests
    • Service life warranties for durability, paint life, ironmongery and insulated glass units
    • Meet or better the UK Building Regulations recommendations for energy efficiency
