Project requirements

Renovation of 150 council properties in a conservation area, requiring window renewal of early 20th century originals.

JELD-WEN’s Stormsure Casement and Vertical Sliding Sash windows were specified to achieve a U value of 1.6 W/m²K to achieve current refurbishment guidelines set out by the Decent Homes programme. They were supplied with a white Hi-Build factory finish to enhance their appearance and prolong performance.
Homes for Haringey, a member of the Supply Chain Management Group, which collaborates with appointed contractors to form supply chains, worked with the Mulalley and Co to select Ashford Commercial, a leading public sector fenestration contractor, to install the windows on this project.
Many of the timber windows supplied by JELD-WEN met the Police approved Secured by Design standard for enhanced protection against intruders. Wherever possible, fire escape casement units were fitted at first floor level, enhancing the safety of occupants.

Double glazed, sliding sash units improved energy efficiency, retained the aesthetics of the street scene and blended in with neighbouring houses. The sliding sash windows provide improved performance, yet still retain traditional sight lines. Both sashes can be made to tilt inwards for easy cleaning and maintenance, which is also important to the social housing sector.

Client Feedback

Pauline Hinds, senior project manager at Homes for Haringey, said: "Our residents are really pleased with the new timber double glazed windows, which have drastically improved the warmth and security of their homes and also complement the special characteristics of the Tower Garden conservation area."
