The concerns expressed by English Heritage continue to rumble on as the headlines around the UK reflect. With the BBC, Daily Telegraph, Building Magazine, Architects' Journal and scores of local newspapers highlighting the English Heritage campaign.
But in these difficult economic times, preserving the original features of a property may be a welcome bonus to homeowners trying to retain value.
Simon Thurley, Chief Executive of English Heritage, says “a survey of estate agents found 82 per cent of them thought that retaining features like original windows added to the value of a property”. He concluded: "For anyone who would say to us, 'You are just being the taste police and being snobby', I would say it does seem to be a generally held view, reflected by what people will pay for a property, that original windows are preferable."
Wood Window Alliance members offer a simple solution to repairing, maintaining and where necessary replacing old wood windows with energy efficient new ones.
