St Andrews, Scotland
New, high performance, timber windows appropriate for this 115 year-old Grade II listed building next to the famous golf course, subject to approval by Scottish Heritage.
There was a debate between the owners, who wanted the windows to be black and Scottish Heritage, who wanted green. Some of the windows had to be dual-coloured, with a cream interior. Some windows had to have curved heads. Ironmongery had to be tested to withstand the severe sea spray conditions.
West Port supplied a fully factory-finished vertical sliding sash window complete with traditional cords and weights, some in dual-colour. They specified a special dark green paint finish that was acceptable to both parties; and the ironmongery underwent sea spray testing for the equivalent of 2,000 hours.
The new windows are entirely in keeping with the old windows, but with the performance, durability and low maintenance of modern factory-finished windows.
